Mission & Staff

Our mission statement is simple; we want to help you and your family members "Improve Life Through Better Vision". Maintaining excellent or optimal vision and eye health is critical to learning and enjoying all aspects of life. It is a vital component of optimizing the quality of life for people of all ages from infants through seniors.

Our founder, Dr. Ira Benstein, continues to share his encyclopedic knowledge and optometry experience with patients every day. He is joined by two other "Bernsteins", son Paul and daughter-in-law Andrea. All are Doctors of Optometry.

So, while Dr. Ira didn't know it at the time he began the practice, FVCA eventually turned into a family affair.

Appropriately so, in an age of medical impersonalization, FVCA strives to bring a personal, family approach to eye care and to our patients. That's the promise Dr. Ira made back in 1960 and one we strive to fulfill every day.

The Bernstein Center For Visual Performance

Located in the same facility is our "sister" practice, the Bernstein Center For Visual Performance (BCVP). BCVP is a specialized optometric practice that diagnoses and treats vision problems for which glasses may not be the answer. These vision problems include disorders of binocularity (eye teaming), accommodation (focusing), and ocular motilities (eye movements), as well as visual information processing skills which include size, shape, distance and directional judgments, visual memory, and visualization. Problems in these areas can adversely impact school and work performance.

BCVP also provides visual rehabilitation services to those patients who have lost visual function as the result of a traumatic brain injury.

During comprehensive eye exams we assess eye health and refractive status (near-sightedness, far-sightedness, etc.). It is possible that even if each eye has "perfect 20/20 vision," the two eyes may have significant difficulty working together (a binocular dysfunction) which can result in blurred vision, double vision, eyestrain, headaches, reading avoidance and poor depth perception. The Center was founded in 2000 by Drs. Paul and Ira Bernstein and is recognized throughout the U.S. as a leader in treating binocular vision problems with vision therapy, prisms and lenses. What's an Optometrist?

Doctors of optometry (ODs) are the primary health care professionals for the eye.

Optometrists examine, diagnose, treat, and manage diseases, injuries, and disorders of the visual system, the eye, and associated structures as well as identify related systemic conditions affecting the eye.
