For more than 50 years, Family Vision Care Associates' (FVCA) primary mission has been to help you and your family enjoy and improve life through better vision. Our practice is still dedicated to that goal, each patient at a time. Each member of our physician staff is a fully-qualified eye doctor.
Dr. Ira is the founder of FVCA and still holds his position as an emeritus and consultant. Our primary doctors, Dr. Paul, Dr. Andrea, and Dr. Erica, are all fully qualified eye doctors with years of experience in their practice. Please view the following bios to get to know our optometrists.
Dr. Ira founded Family Vision Care Associates in 1960. One of the most experienced optometrists in the U.S., he is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and the New York Academy of Optometry. In addition to his general optometry practice, Dr. Ira is a pioneering specialist in Optometric Vision Therapy, and is a Fellow of the College of Optometrists in Vision Development (COVD). He has spent more than 5 decades both practicing and teaching general optometry and vision therapy. He continues to work as a consultant at FVCA to this day.
Dr. Paul is both a general optometrist at FVCA and a developmental optometrist for our sister practice, The Bernstein Center for Visual Performance.
His general optometry specialties include "hard to fit" contact lenses, and low vision evaluations. He is a Fellow of the College of Vision Developments.
Dr. Andrea Bernstein received her Doctor of Optometry degree in 1991 from S.U.N.Y. College of Optometry and is licensed in in the states of NY and CT.
In addition to general optometry, her specialties include bifocal contact lens evaluations and fittings, plus hard to fit contact lens patients. She has extensive experience with ocular pathology (glaucoma, retinal vascular disease, diabetes, neuro-opthalmic conditions).
